How to Set Up Norton’s Password Manager on a Computer
Last week’s article was all about learning how to set up a password manager on a smartphone. I’ve also discussed what password managers are and why they are important. This week, I’ll show you how to set up one of the most popular password managers, Norton’s Password Manager.
Note: I am using a Dell Laptop with an Intel Core i7 1.80 GHZ Processor and 16 GB of RAM. Things may vary depending on the type of phone and software version you have installed on your device.
How to set up Norton’s Password Manager?
If you use a Mac and are already using the Apple Passwords app, those passwords can show up on your iPhone and iPad.
Set up on Google Chrome
Step-by-step instructions to set up Norton’s Password Manager on a Mac or PC.
Open Google Chrome and click on the Puzzle Piece Icon to the right of the address bar at the top of the screen.
Click “Manage Extensions.”
Click “Chrome Web Store” on the far left of the screen, located underneath “Keyboard Shortcuts.”
Type in “Norton” and Norton’s Password Manager is the second option that appears in the drop-down menu, and click on it.
Click on the blue button that says “Add to Chrome.”
Click on the yellow icon that appears next to the Puzzle Piece icon mentioned in step one.
Sign in to your Norton Account.
Verify your account via text, phone call, or email
Type in the Verification Number in the box provided or copy the verification number from your email (if sent via email) by holding the Command key and then pressing the c key for Mac, holding the CTL key and then pressing the c key for PC.
Go back to the screen requesting the verification numbers and paste the temporary password by holding the Command key and then pressing the v key for Mac, holding the CTL key and then pressing the v key for PC.
Set a password for your “Norton Vault” that is unique (write it down and put it somewhere you can remember because you will need to use it every time that you log in), and click Save.
Saving a Password
Click on “Forgot my Password,” enter your email address
Click on Send temporary password
Log in to your email, find the temporary password, and open the email.
Copy the temporary password by holding the Command key and then pressing the c key for Mac, holding the CTL key and then pressing the c key for PC.
Go back to the website that you need to reset the password and paste the temporary password by holding the Command key and then pressing the V key for Mac, holding the CTL key and then pressing the C key for PC.
Log in with the temporary password
On the screen to set a new password, click in the box to type a new password
Click the Set Password button at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the yellow icon to the right of the address bar
Click on Logins on the left-hand menu
Click the Yellow Plus Sign on the bottom right of the screen
Type the website address, EX. https://www.hulu.com
Type your username if you have a username, or your email address if that is your username
Type in your new password
Click the Save button
Note: to log in to a website after a password is saved in the password app, go to the website and click on the email or username box, and your username or email and password will automatically appear. Then click the login button.
Norton’s Password Manager seems a bit more complicated to set up than others that I’ve used, but if you are paying for the service, it’s a good way to make your life more secure and easier when using online accounts
